This job merges the responsibilities of the Messiah Christian School (MCS) Director and also the Messiah Lutheran Church (MLC) Congregational Children’s Minister.

Broad Job Expectations: Lead the Messiah Christian School providing appropriate academic and spiritual growth. Lead the Messiah Children’s Ministry providing spiritual growth and parental support. Bring together the MCS and Messiah Congregation, making each a good presence in and for the other.

Educational Requirements: Bachelor of Education. Early Childhood Major preferred.

Experience Requirements. Preferred five years of early childhood teaching, leadership/management experience. Current church involvement and/or church leadership required.

Compensation: $40,000 base salary, (July-June), additionally-approximately $6000 in benefits, to be negotiated with Messiah Church Council. Two weeks of vacation in first year.

Hours Required: 40-45 hours per week. Weekly hours are flexible as long as a month long average equals this weekly expectation. Daily presence at MCS September thru May, expected.

Responsible to: MCS Board, Church Council, Education Chair, Senior Pastor

Direct Reports: MCS Assistant Director, teachers, aids, kitchen staff of MCS, nursery nannies

MCS Director

Key activities include: organization, supervising, staffing, scheduling, curriculum development, communications, interfacing with the Church, meeting licensing requirements, health and safety issues and fair treatment of the professional staff. Assuring that all specific job descriptions of employees are being carried out in a prompt and professional way.

Hours Required: The MCS Director is in the building four days a week during the MCS school year from 8:30 till 3:30. They should post dedicated times to MCS, per state guidelines.

Responsible for overseeing:
Organization of projects, special events , in-service meetings, and Parent Programs
Ordering Supplies and picking up supplies as needed
Distribution of all communications
Meeting needs of MCS Board, staff, children and parents
Abiding by regulations as outlined in MLC bylaws
Meeting Licensing requirements
Resolving all school personnel matters
Communicating with church staff and council, congregation, school staff, parents, including maintenance of MCS Manual
Maintaining equipment and facility, equipment purchase and maintenance scheduling
Arrangement for room-usage
Classroom, Storage and maintenance needs
Snack, dietary and medical needs
Oversee the work of the MCS Assistant Director
Tuition payments
All invoice and receipt reimbursements
Attendance Records, Student Files, Staff Files
All parental communications
Lunch program

Planning, reviewing and/or preparation of:
Classroom Newsletters License Renewal Family outings
Special Events Web site updates Summer Mailing
Publicity/Advertising Correspondence Book Fairs (2 per year)
Yearly Calendar Enrollment Forms Food Drive (November)
Staff Handbook Parent Handbook Snack Calendar
Chapel planning Lunch program Hat, Coat, and Mitten Drive

Personnel Management:
Continuing Education Staff trainings
Personnel Files Staff evaluations
Hire and train new teachers and assistants
Hire and train substitute teachers (if needed)

Congregational Children’s Minister

Broad Job Expectations: Encourage the spiritual grown of children fifth grade and under at Messiah. Supporting and encouraging parents at Messiah. Training and enabling members of Messiah to lead and serve in Children’s Ministry. Bring enthusiasm to the staff and congregation at Messiah for Christ.

Hours Required: Sunday mornings 9-Noon. Wednesday evenings 5:30 thru 7:30 September through May. Planning and preparation hours throughout the week. Monthly weekend activity with children and parents. Week long Vacation Bible School Annually.

Ministries Responsible to Maintain:
Sunday Morning Education for preschool and academic grades K-5
Structure, room assignment, curriculum, volunteers, training, presence
Wednesday Evening Education/Activities for preschool and academic grades K-5
Structure, room assignment, curriculum, volunteers, training, presence
Vacation Bible School, one week in the summer
Structure, room assignment, curriculum, volunteers, training, presence
A minimum monthly Servant/Fellowship Activity for preschool and grades K-5
Maintain and expand programs and rituals that help our parents keep their baptismal promises to raise their child in the faith, eg. entering Sunday School, First Bible, First Communion.
